Bach’s Cello Suites Brought to Literary and Literal - Life
LitFest presents Eric Siblin, whose bestselling book The Cello Suites, brings together the journeys of J.S. Bach, composer of the six iconic suites for solo cello; Pablo Cassals, the Basque virtuoso who discovered the suites and made them his signature piece; and Siblin himself, who rediscovers a passion for music through an exploration of Bach and his interpreters.

A Literary Spotlight on Dissident Voices in China
LitFest and the China Institute are pleased to present award-winning author Denise Chong and new Writer in Exile Sheng Xue, in a special pre-festival event on October 8th at 7pm, at the TELUS Auditorium, University of Alberta. Together, the two provide an extraordinary richness of experience and research to tell stories that reinforce that the personal is political.

NeWest Press and LitFest launch The Frog Lake Reader
Myrna Kostash, recipient of the Writers Guild of Alberta Golden Pen Award for lifetime achievement, and a City of Edmonton Cultural Hall of Fame inductee, launches her new book, The Frog Lake Reader, at the opening night of LitFest 2009 on Wednesday, October 21st at 7 pm, at the Stanley A. Milner Library Theatre, and the and Aboriginal Collection area on the 2nd Floor.

A Full Weekend of Brain Food
In deference to our nonfiction roots, LitFest combines readings and performances with a wide range of panel discussions and debates that focus both on the craft and the subject matter of our authors’ work. Savour four Writers, and the Foods that Inspired Them
LitFest presents Savouries, a gumbo of four very different forms of food writing, on Friday, October 23rd at 6:00pm at Kids in the Hall Bistro(City Hall). Patrons enjoy readings by Marusya Bociurkiw, Liane Faulder, Jennifer McLagan and Janice Wong, together with appetizers prepared by chef Wayne Maki through inspiration from the books.
