LitFest supports Story Slam
8/4/2010 12:00:00 AM
LitFest supports Story Slam this Fall. Story Slam is a monthly storytelling competition at The Haven Social Club that features new work by a diverse group of Edmonton authors. Ten original stories stir the adrenalin then five audience members select the evenings best. The atmosphere is fierce yet celebratory. The Edmonton Story Slam was started in February 2006. It runs the 3rd Wednesday of every month.
Story Slam has evolved in Edmonton over four years, becoming a terrific testing place for new writing. The format is simple: authors show up with five minutes of material, ten are picked at random to perform that night. The audience contributes to a prize for the winning entry. Impartial judges are pulled from the audience, and they assign each reading a score.
On October 20th, LitFest will be thrilled to support the first Nonfiction Story Slam, at the Haven Social Club on Stony Plain Road. Doors at 7pm - come ready to experience some marvellous new pieces, or to try out your own!
